Frequently asked questions
How do I move between months quickly?
Swipe left or right on the calendar grid to move to the next or previous month.
How do I add my photos?
Open Lumina, choose your background settings, and select a photo from your library.
What calendars work with Lumina?
Lumina is designed to work with iCloud, Google, and other calendar sources available on your device.
Can I control image placement?
Yes. In the image positioning editor, drag to move and pinch to zoom. Positioning can be set separately for portrait and landscape.
Why is image positioning sometimes disabled?
If Fill Screen or Gentle Motion is enabled for a background, manual positioning controls may be unavailable for that image.
How do I use landscape column sizing?
In Display Settings, turn on Show landscape divider so the line and handle appear between the calendar and events in landscape. Then drag the center divider to resize the calendar and event columns. Double-tap the divider to reset to the recommended balance.
How do I quickly open related links?
In event details/edit screens, use the map icon to open a location in Apple Maps and the link icon to open a saved event URL in your browser.
How does Minimal View work?
Minimal View shows a clean clock-focused display. You can enable automatic switching after inactivity and set the inactivity timer in Display Settings.
What is the Day Detail View?
Tap the date heading in the event list to open a scrollable hour-by-hour timeline for that day. Events are positioned by their start and end times. Overlapping events appear side by side in columns. All-day and multi-day events are shown as banners at the top. A red line marks the current time. Tap the back button to return to the main view.
Can I search events?
Yes. Use the search button to filter events by text and date range, then jump directly to matching dates.
What is Gentle Motion?
Gentle Motion adds a slow drift to your background photo while you view the calendar. Turn it on in Manage Background Images and choose a speed. It works with Fill Screen, or with Fit after you customize zoom and position so the image has room to move. If iOS Reduce Motion is on (Settings → Accessibility → Motion), Gentle Motion in Lumina stays off. Motion pauses while the image positioning editor is open.
What is image positioning for?
Image positioning lets you drag and pinch to choose how each background photo is cropped and zoomed, separately for portrait and landscape. Open Edit / Remove Images, select a photo, then tap Settings. It is not available when Fill Screen or Gentle Motion is on for that photo, because those options control the picture automatically.
iOS Settings that affect Lumina
How do I change the app language?
Lumina supports English, Deutsch, Español, Français, 日本語, 简体中文, 한국어, Tiếng Việt, Português (Brasil), العربية, Italiano, हिन्दी, Bahasa Indonesia, and Nederlands. To change the language, go to Settings → Lumina → Preferred Language on your device and choose a language. The app will restart in the new language.
How do I enable event reminders?
Lumina uses iOS notifications to alert you about upcoming events. When you first set an alarm on an event, the app will ask for notification permission. If you declined, go to Settings → Lumina → Notifications and turn on Allow Notifications. You can also choose your preferred alert style (banners, sounds, badges) there.
Lumina can't access my photos
Lumina needs photo library access to let you choose background images. If you see a permission prompt, tap Allow Access. If you previously denied access, go to Settings → Lumina → Photos and select Full Access or Limited Access. The app will prompt you to update this when you try to add a background image.
Lumina can't see my calendars
To import and sync events from iCloud, Google, or other calendar accounts on your device, Lumina needs calendar access. If you denied the permission when prompted, go to Settings → Lumina → Calendars and turn on Full Access. Once enabled, your device calendars will appear when you use Import Calendars.
Does Lumina support non-Gregorian calendars?
Yes. Lumina follows your device's calendar system setting. If you use the Japanese, Buddhist, or another calendar, go to Settings → General → Language & Region → Calendar to choose your preferred system. Lumina's calendar grid and date calculations will reflect that choice.
How do accessibility settings affect Lumina?
Lumina responds to several iOS accessibility settings: Larger Text scales the calendar and event text, Increase Contrast boosts text legibility over photos, Reduce Motion replaces animations with simple transitions and disables Gentle Motion, and Differentiate Without Color shows event counts as numbers. See our Accessibility page for full details.
