Accessibility in Lumina

Lumina is built to be usable by everyone. We support a range of accessibility features built into iOS so you can enjoy your photo calendar however you prefer to use your device.

VoiceOver

Lumina works with Apple's VoiceOver screen reader. Every button, calendar date, event, and control has a spoken label so you can navigate the app without needing to see the screen. You can browse months, select dates, read your events, create new events, search, explore the day timeline, and adjust settings — all with VoiceOver gestures. The Day Detail View announces event titles, times, and locations for each event on the timeline.

Larger Text

When you increase the text size in your iPhone or iPad settings, Lumina's text and icons grow with it. Calendar dates, event names, toolbar labels, and settings all scale up so they're easier to read. Lumina supports all seven standard Dynamic Type sizes. At the very largest accessibility sizes, text is gently capped so the calendar grid stays usable while still being noticeably bigger than the default. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Larger Text to adjust.

Sufficient Contrast

Because Lumina shows text over your photos, it automatically adjusts text brightness and shadows to stay readable on any background. When you turn on Increase Contrast in your device settings, Lumina further boosts text strength and makes borders more visible. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Increase Contrast.

Reduced Motion

If animations cause you discomfort, turn on Reduce Motion in your device settings. Lumina will replace bouncing and spring animations with simple, gentle transitions. The Gentle Motion feature (slow background image movement) is also automatically turned off. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Motion > Reduce Motion.

Differentiate Without Color

Lumina never relies on color alone to convey information. On the calendar grid, dots represent single-day events and bars represent multi-day events — these shapes tell you events exist on a given day. The color of the dot or bar indicates which source calendar the event belongs to, but you can always read the full event details including the calendar name on the events page. Event titles, times, and calendar sources are always shown as text. The selected date is marked with a square outline and the current date with a circle outline, so you can tell them apart by shape. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Differentiate Without Color.
